Earlier this week the Delaware State Housing Authority announced that the state’s Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) will provide funding to 15 communities and scattered sites in Delaware.  The municipalities of Kent and Sussex Counties will receive more that $2.1 million for housing rehabilitation, water and sewer hookups, sidewalk repair, and administration.  The Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) will provide funding to more than 152 families this year, while the HOME Scattered Sites Rehabilitation Program (HOME) will assist more than 24 families in need of housing rehabilitation.

As Governor Jack Markell stated to the Delaware State Housing Authority (DSHA), “In this economy, homeowners may be deferring maintenance on their homes, which may have unintended consequences.   Our goal is to help low-income homeowners stay in their homes long-term by assisting with necessary repairs, which not only improves the habitability of homes but also sustains the community.”

The Delaware State Housing Authorities’ (DSHA) Director Anas Ben Addi also commented, “The Community Development Block Grant Program (CDGB) provides much-needed funding for a variety of housing activities in Kent and Sussex Counties.  To help stretch these dollars, we’ve combined them with $400,000 in [HOME Scattered Sites Rehabilitation Program](HOME) funds.”

Recommendations for Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and HOME Scattered Sites Rehabilitation Program (Home) funds were determined by an independent review panel whose members evaluated each applicant based on potential benefits to low-income persons, the management capacity of the applicant, and the impact of proposed activities, including severity of need, impact, cost reasonableness, and feasibility.
