Affordable Housing and Tax Credit Developments in DelawareSussex County Habitat for Humanity Seeking Military Veteran and Active Military Applicants

March 18, 2014by George Danneman

The Sussex County Habitat for Humanity is seeking military veteran and active military applicants for a Veteran Build.  If you are a military veteran or active military family in need of housing who lives or works in Sussex County this may be an opportunity you should pursue.  In basic terms, to qualify for a Sussex County Habitat for Humanity house, one must live or work in Sussex County, be willing to partner with Sussex County Habitat for Humanity and be able to afford a special mortgage in the approximate amount of $500 per month.

For more information call Margaret Reyes, Family Services Manager at SCHFH, at (302) 855-1153, extension 204.

The Sussex County Habitat for Humanity Philosophy is as follows:  Habitat provides a “Hand-up, not a Hand-out”. Families are selected on the basis of the need for housing, ability to pay a not for profit, no-interest mortgage, and their willingness to partner.  Homeowner candidates invest sweat equity by helping to build their homes and the homes of others. Mortgage payments go into Habitat’s “Fund for Humanity” and are used to build more houses with more families in the future.

Habitat for Humanity has also partnered with Americorps in Delaware and together were a nationally recognized 2013 Innovation & Leadership Featured Finalist.
