April 16, 2012by George Danneman

On April 28, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Christiana Hilton Hotel (100 Continental Dr. Newark, DE), the Delaware State Housing Authority (DSHA), in partnership with the DFLI~The Money School and the Delaware Federation of Housing Counselors, will hold its second annual Homebuyer Fair. The Fair will offer prospective homebuyers – including individuals who have not owned a home in the past three years – the opportunity to obtain the information they need to make their home-buying decision less daunting.

Due to the downturn in the U.S. economy and a slow housing market, many prospective homeowners are hesitant about purchasing their first new home. However, with historically low interest rates and reasonable home prices, there has never been a better time to purchase a home as long as the buyer is prepared with the right tools to make the right decision.

“We encourage individuals interested in purchasing their first home to come to the event and speak with our experts on a range of different home buying topics from home inspections to budgeting to negotiating the right price,” said DSHA Director Anas Ben Addi. “With proper planning and assistance from some of the Delaware State Housing Authority’s programs, first time homebuyers in Delaware can make the purchase of their first home a reality.”

Attendees of the event can also learn about the DSHA’s programs available to help Delawareans purchase their first home, including details on low-interest mortgage rates to closing cost assistance. The DSHA First-Time Homebuyers Program is a statewide program that helps qualifying first-time Delaware homebuyers finance a new home at below-market interest rates.

The event is free for the public to attend and will be a great source of information with more than 40 exhibitors, including realtors and financial institutions as well as service providers. The seminar classes meet HUD-approved workshop requirements. Pre-registration is recommended, but not required. Visit the DFLI~The Money School’s website to register for the event at: http://www.delawaremoneyschool.com/
